2009 AIT Summer School on
“Future Internet and Sensor Web (SENSEWEB09)”
(29 June - 10 July, 2009)

Deadline of application: Friday, May 08, 2009
Acceptance Notification: Friday, May 29, 2009

AIT summer seminars provide a unique opportunity to students and professionals to enrich their background in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and technology management. Participants gain insights on applied state-of-the-art ICT technologies, as well as leading edge research results that will shape the next generation of telecommunication and computing systems. AIT summer seminars are typically complemented with social events, which bring the participants closer and create a warm collaborative atmosphere.

Program Structure
Building on the successes of the 2005 AIT Summer School on ‘Emerging ICT Technologies’, the 2006 AIT Summer School on ‘Next Generation Computing Systems’, the 2007 AIT Summer School on ‘Recent Advances in Telecommunications, Networking and Distributed Computing Systems’, and the 2008 Summer School of “Leading Edge Network and Service Infrastructures”, this year’s Summer School will offer a multidisciplinary program including courses and laboratory activities. The various courses and learning activities will be complementary in order to collectively illustrate the key directions associated with the future internet and the sensor web.

The program will be organized into two weekly modules enabling participants to focus on a networking track or on a pervasive systems track or both.

The 1st module, titled "Networking and Telecommunications for the Future Internet", will emphasize on the following topics/areas:

* Overview & current trends in Networking & Telecommunications
* Future Data Networks & Internet
* Emerging Wireless Networks
* Forward-looking Optical Networks and Network Security

The 2nd module, titled "Sensor Web", will comprise of lectures and laboratory exercises on:

* Current trends in distributed computing
* Sensor signal processing (with emphasis on A/V processing)
* Semantic Computing
* RFID systems and applications
* Context Aware Computing
* Technologies underpinning the Internet of the Things (IoT)

This modular structure will enable students to customize the program according to their learning objectives, preferences and expectations. Students attending both modules will obtain a multiple benefit, since they will be exposed to a broader range of complementary technologies.

Who should attend?
Students and professionals from computer science, computational science, engineering and application backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The school is designed to accommodate students with diverse academic backgrounds. Following the completion of the summer school, participants will receive a certification of their studies.

Module I (Networking and Telecommunications for the Future Internet)
Start Date (Networking and Telecommunications for the Future Internet): Monday 29 June, 2009
End Date (Networking and Telecommunications for the Future Internet): Friday 3 July, 2009

Module II (Sensor Web):
Start Date (Sensor Web): Monday 6 July, 2009
End Date (Sensor Web): Friday 10 July, 2009

The participation fee per module, which includes tuition, reading materials, lab costs, coffee breaks, is 350€ (Euros).
A reduced fee of 600€ (Euros) will apply to participants enrolling for both modules of the program.
