Exploring Salutogenetic Pathways to Health Promotion
XVIII ETC Summer Course will be held 2009 in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy, August 3–14
(Cagliari: after 1997 & 2003 now 2009 again)
Main Contents
* Review of the principles of Public Health and Health Promotion
* Evidence based Health Promotion
* Research methods for Health Promotion
* The challenges of practice: participation, intersectoral action, communication
* Developing a successful health promotion project
During the distance learning phase the participants will improve their abilities in
* critically reviewing the main Public Health and Health Promotion trends in their local and
national context and in a wider European and global perspective.
* describing and discussing health and health promotion programmes in their own countries.
* describing, based on the previous points, the main challenges for public health, and critically
assess the relation between these challenges and health promotion principles.
During the summer school phase the participants will improve their abilities in
* understanding, discussing and applying HP principles and methods in a concrete context.
* designing a multinational / multisectoral HP project, integrating different approaches.
* participating in an intersectoral and international work environment.
Projects
Participants are organized into groups. Each group will select a research or intervention project, prepare project proposals and make final presentations including a project poster.
Working Format
The 2009 Summer Course will consist of eight learning weeks: the first six weeks will be disseminated as a distance learning module (120 hours), followed by two-week intensive course with morning and afternoon sessions (80 hours) at the University of Cagliari. Course methods include introductory presentations from the course team, self-study, group work, problem-solving and other forms of peer-based learning. Expert briefings and field visits are included. Course working language is English.
Participants - Who should come?
The participants may come from public health, health promotion, all levels of health care, education, social work as well as research, management and policy backgrounds. The number of participants is limited to 30.
Deadline for application: April 20, 2009.
Course Fee 2009
The regular fee of 1.100 Euro (early registration 1.000 Euro) includes tuition fee, course materials, accomodation, welcome & farewell dinner, lunches on working days.
