Post by Admin on Tue 24 Feb 2009, 17:29

AEGEE is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe; it is represented by 15.000 students, active in 232 academic cities, in 43 countries all around Europe, which presents amazing culture variety. AEGEE is a secular, non-profit organization, not linked to any political party. All projects and activities are based on voluntarily work of its members.

Aims:
o to promote a unified Europe without prejudices
o to strive for creating an open and tolerant society of today and tomorrow
o to foster democracy, human rights, tolerance, cross-boarder co-operation, mobility and European dimension in education

Fields of action:
o Cultural Exchange
o Active Citizenship
o Higher Education
o Peace & Stability

Activities:
o Action Days -at the same time, all over Europe AEGEE locals carry out various activities, which deal with one topic and together provide a great and complex composition of results, e.g.: Socrates Action Day, European Day of Languages or Dance Action Day
o Case Study Trips -research trips aiming to increase the knowledge on a specific topic ( like democracy, youth issues, standards of living and study, nationalism and minority issues) concerning a specific area.
o Projects – every year, during a General Assembly (AGORA), AEGEE members decide on a Yearplan Topic -the thematic frame for projects involving whole Network, e.g. “Youth & Globalization” -2003, “European Identity” -2004, “Tolerance - Acceptance - Peace” –2005 and "Take Control. Ways to Democracy in Europe" - 2006. Moreover AEGEE organizes various conferences, seminars and smaller projects on local and European level.
o Summer Universities – unique international summer courses, successfully carried out by AEGEE already for 18 years! Every year, in around 100 places all over Europe, multicultural groups of 20-50 young people, enjoy together the wonders of cultural variety. They can focus on: art, history, languages, nature or sports.
o Trainings – AEGEE offers to its members a professional Internal Education System with about 8 international trainings (different kinds of "European Schools") and many Local Training Courses per year. Trainings are based on a balanced combination between theory and practice in the formula of lectures followed by casework. Trainings are a tool of knowledge transfer within the organization, help members to develop their personal skills and complement education with lifetime experiences.

AEGEE-Europe offers three lists of events: the 'official' calendar, the more complete internal calendar 'eventually' and the calendar of related non-AEGEE events. Anyone is invited to apply for an participate in any events (with the exeption of internal statutory events where only AEGEE members meet). Fees are usually very low = affordable for university students and young people.

[EXPIRED] SUMMER UNIVERSITIES 2009

Post by Admin on Fri 27 Feb 2009, 21:40

General Introduction:
A Summer University is usually a two-week event organized by an AEGEE local where between 20 and 60 students come together from all over Europe. Summer Universities are organized by students for students. The activities carried out during a Summer University range from academic activities as classes to learn a foreign language, different courses on technical themes to multicultural activities: get familiar with Finnish culture, Spanish history, Greek mythology; learn how to sail or tracking or etc. Each year around 90 Summer Universities take place all over Europe, with around 2500 students from more than a 30 European countries; from Spain to Moldova, and from Finland to Malta.

Aims:
The Summer University Project aims at opening a new perspective to the participants over the multicultural dimension of the European continent. It also promotes understanding among European students, removing national borders and creating a European feeling.

History:
The Summer University Project was born in 1988 with the intention to promote the European Integration. This project is the main tool developed by AEGEE to attain this difficult but fascinating target. Since that time, it has been continuing every year with the participation of more than 90 antennae. It reflects AEGEE’s traditional formula: Acquaint Europeans with Europe. This year, it will be the 19th anniversary of the project, which makes it the longest lasting project in AEGEE history.

Programme:
The programme’s key to success is the effort to involve as many people as possible. It includes workshops in different areas auch as history, literature, culture, art, cinema etc. It also offers the opportunity to experience traditional food, enjoy a European Night party and a compulsory AEGEE lesson Smile, learn about other cultures and even discover yourself. Active debates, music and youth spirit are traditionally part of the programme of a Summer University.

Application for Participants:
Applying is only possible after becoming a member of AEGEE and receiving the required membership number, which is necessary to fill out the application form on the website. It is expected from the applicants to write a motivation letter for each of their three choices.

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR 2009: 30 APRIL
