Expired Ghana Health and Education Initiative (GHEI) Volunteer Program 2009

Post by Admin Fri 20 Feb 2009, 03:19

Volunteers have been an integral part of GHEI’s work from the very beginning. In the summer of 2003 the first group of volunteers conducted a study on health trends, determinants, and beliefs about community health issues. Since then, over eighty volunteers have dedicated their time, skills, and hearts to enhancing GHEI’s work in Humjibre and the Bibiani District. Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who share a common passion for global health and education work that is localized and effective. Presently GHEI has two main types of volunteer opportunities - Serve and Learn and partnership projects.

Serve and Learn Projects
Serve and Learn projects are approximately two and a half week-long projects that are developed by local Ghanaian staff based on the needs of the community at that time and implemented by a small and diverse group of carefully selected volunteers. Past projects have included a variety of health campaigns, malaria prevention projects, deworming clinics, educational camps, girls empowerment projects, and data collection. These projects take place anywhere from three to six times per year. Three Serve and Learn projects are conducted during the summer months (June-August) with additional projects conducted as needed throughout the year. Descriptions of the summer projects for this year and a copy of the application can be found in the “Downloads & Info” section of this page to the right.

Applicants from all backgrounds and majors are encouraged to apply.
