8th European Summer School on Information Retrieval
29 Aug - 02 Sep 2011
Koblenz, Germany
The 8th International Summer School on Information Retrieval offers high quality teaching on Information Retrieval and related research topics to a broad audience of computer scientists and research students working on topics related to management of information on the Internet, as well as for industrialists who wish to know more about this highly important topic. Traditionally, ESSIR is the central meeting point for IR-oriented students and young researchers and, accordingly, an incubator for new ideas and paradigms.
Information Retrieval is the science concerned with the effective and efficient retrieval of documents starting from their semantic content. IR is employed to choose some information need from an amount of digital documents. IR activities permit to reach automatically those digital documents of the collection that are relevant for the initial user's need of information. The IR core methods and techniques are those for designing and developing IR systems, Web search engines, and tools for information storing and querying.
ESSIR is the only world-wide school in Information Retrieval. It's a scientific event with temporal regularity founded in 1990, which gave rise to a series of IR Summer Schools. ESSIR 2011 summer school will take place in Koblenz / Germany in the week between 29 Aug - 02 Sep 2011.
Fees
- Early registration rate: 325 EUR (on or before 30th June 2011)
- Late registration rate: 425 EUR (1th July 2011 and later)
The registration fees include participation in the Summer School and co-located PhD Symposiums, coffee breaks and lunches, poster reception, school materials, wireless internet access, and participation in the main social event (Rhine Loreley cruise with dinner).
