The Economics of Museums and Cultural Heritage
Amsterdam
21 - 24 September 2011

Location Amsterdam University College
Language English
Deadline July 20

How to sustain a museum and a cultural heritage site in these times? They are costly to maintain, and even more costly to develop. Revenues are difficult to generate. Governmental authorities are getting less generous in their grants. How to face these challenges?

These changes call for new and creative ways of running the modern museum. It is a demanding task that requires advanced and thorough knowledge on policy design, on the content, the organization and the financing of museums. This course aims to stimulate new ideas on the ways to realize the values of museums using a cultural economics perspective. We will explore important developments that affect the museum now and in the future and will investigate the ways in which museums can cope with or take advantage of these developments.
