Sustainable energy technology for heating
Are you interested in reduction of energy use, reduction of carbon emissions and smart use of heat and power; then apply for the Summer School District Energy.

In close cooperation with representatives from the District Energy industry in Denmark, the Engineering College of Aarhus offers a Summer School with focus on District Heating Technology from 7-19 August 2011 in Aarhus, Denmark.

Objectives
The purpose of the Summer School is to enable you to apply your engineering competences to District Energy issues and to gain an insight into the technology and the main components, different kinds of heat production, smart production and consumption, and the great environmental advantage in using District Energy.

Method
The Summer School combines lectures, company visits and exercises and finish with a case study.

A considerable part of the course will be carried out in cooperation with the industry, heat supply companies, consulting engineers and the Danish Development Centre for District Energy. Several lessons will be conducted by the companies at their localities.

Who can apply?
The school welcomes engineering students who will finish their education within the next year. It is also possible for PhD students and young engineers with experience in the sector to participate.

The Summer School welcomes you who:
- are studying to become an engineer - on bachelor or master level
- have a great interest in District Energy, energy savings and reduction of carbon emissions
- will finish your engineering education within the next year
- have educational competences within mechanical and civil engineering
- are a PhD student or a young engineer with experience from the District Energy sector

Throughout the Summer School, you will be working creatively in teams across the different engineering disciplines and an international environment. The lessons will be conducted in English.

Competences
Through participation in the Summer School you will gain following competences:
- Understanding of advantages, problems and principles in District energy.
- Understanding of the functions and main elements from production to the consumer.
- Experience in applying your own engineering knowledge.
- A district energy approach to subjects as:
Network and components
Combined Heat and Power, boilers, heat store tanks, incineration, solar and biogas plants
- Operation of the production, the grid and the consumption combined with smart grids

Participation fee
To participate in the Summer School, you are required to pay a fee covering food and accommodation and possibly a tuition fee
Students at IHA:
Food and accommodation*: 150 €
Tuition fee: 0 €
Bachelor and Master students from other Danish institutions and EU/EEA countries**:
Food and accommodation*: 150 €
Tuition fee: 0 €
Bachelor and Master students from non-EU/EEA countries or students who cannot have the course approved in his/her study program:
Food and accommodation*: 1000 €
Tuition fee: 1000 €
PhD students, employees and young engineers:
Food and accommodation*: 2000 €
Tuition fee: 1000 €

*) "Food and accommodation" covers:
Food from Sunday 7 August - Friday 19 August
A room shared with 1-3 other participants from Sunday 7 August 15H00 to Friday 19 August 10H00
Transportation by bus between the course site and the companies/places that will be visited.

**) Requires preapproval from your home institution documenting that the 5 ECTS summer school course can be included in your study program.
