Ignite Change Now! Global Youth Assembly (GYA) 2011
University of Alberta
Edmonton, Canada
27 - 30 July 2011

You can make a difference. Individual actions, like drops of water, are creating ripple effects around the world. At the Ignite Change Now! Global Youth Assembly (GYA) 2011, hundreds of youth and young professionals from all backgrounds will unite to turn ripples into waves as they explore the theme OUR WORLD. OUR WATER.

Be there July 27 - 30, 2011 (University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada). Together, we will Ignite Change Now!

GYA 2011
The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, host of the GYA, invites you to participate in this vibrant platform of change and growth. This year, delegates will explore the theme “OUR WORLD. OUR WATER.”

More than 500 youth will explore the fascinating connections between water and an array of issues and topics. Water and youth engagement. Water and development. Water and education. Water and production. Water and indigenous rights. Water and Africa. Water and art. Water…and so much more! Participants at the GYA 2011 will deepen their understanding of water in relation to the issues that interest them and in relation to each other, their communities, and the world.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, how you live, or what your interests are. Water concerns you. Through art, music, and other media, the GYA will expose water as a critical issue for everyone, everywhere.

Post- GYA Training
Following the GYA 2011, the John Humphrey Centre and key partners including the North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper® Program, a licensed member of the Waterkeeper® Alliance, will deliver a training program for 100 youth from across Canada. These 100 youth are referred to the John Humphrey Centre by partners as youth who want to deepen their knowledge of water issues and become involved as a water steward when they return home.

The aim of this training program for young leaders will be to connect the concept of citizenship with the environment. Allowing youth to engage in an issue that crosses boundaries of identity; whether race, religion, gender or other, youth will engage in constructive practices in the community that will support improved water quality that is accessible to all.

Delegates
GYA delegates come from Edmonton, Rwanda, Ukraine, Bolivia, Nunavut, rural Alberta, and many other places and walks of life to share in the GYA experience.
The suggested age range for the GYA is 16-28, but there are always participants from every generation present starting from age 13, which adds to the diversity and richness of the event.
