Expired European Commission - European Consumers Summit

Post by Admin Thu 28 Jan 2010, 17:29

European Consumers Summit
18-19th March 2010, Brussels

Call for 12 Participants
Arrival: 17th March, Departure 19th March (afternoon)

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 02d February 2010

The conference is organised by the European Commission, by the Directorate General for Health and Consumers, gathering around 300 stakeholders in the consumer area to exchange views and make progress in a specific consumer policy area. It is traditionally close to the World Consumer Rights Day organised by "Consumers International" every year on 15 March. The summit in 2010 is the second summit of that type. The first took place on 1-2 April 2009 and was entitled "Consumer trust in the digital market".

In 2010 the event will focus on services and in particular on access, fairness and choice. Indeed, services are becoming increasingly diverse and complex– and their importance is growing both within the economy and for the every day life of EU citizens. Citizens are now asked to be proactive and take a certain amount of risk in areas where they had never before been asked to take decisions.
Specific topics will be addressed in workshops: bank fees, green energy, urban transport, transparency of process and comparability, and web 3.0. 12 participants will be invited to join the conference and especially to express their views in the workshops.

Selection criteria for the participants
All participants must comply with the following criteria:

- Be nominated by a YFJ Member Organisation
- Be aged between 18-35, and a EU citizen
- Be committed to taking active part during the discussions, especially in the workshops
- Have a good command of the English language

Number of participants
12 participants
Each Member Organisation may nominate one participant to the event.

Practical information/ Deadline for applications
All travel and 2 nights of accommodation will be booked by DG SANCO upon reception of documentation of expenses, according to existing financial guidelines.

For any questions regarding the content of the activity, please contact Julie Teng, Executive Policy Officer, Youth Mainstreaming, Health and Sustainable Development at the YFJ Secretariat, at: julie.teng@youthforum.org
