Learning foreign languages in countries where the languages are spoken not only gives young people greater knowledge, acceptance, and respect for other cultures. It also assists in the development of friendly, peaceful relations and strengthens cultural ties between nations. Foreign language acquisition is essential in the cultural awareness and international education of students today.

ALTO member organisations place tens of thousands of young people in culturally oriented, quality language and educational travel programmes every year.
Approximately 170 members in 40 countries around the world work together to move the industry forward, and to continually improve the experience of youth and students as they participate in in-country language learning.

ALTO membership is a symbol of quality. Members are vetted by the larger membership community, examined for financial health, and referred by other ALTO members. In addition, ALTO members adhere to the ALTO Charter, Members’ Guarantees of Quality, and other guidelines issued by the association.

ALTO is a global not-for-profit organisation and sector association of the World Youth Student & Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation.
