The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) is an independent, non-governmental and non-political federation of medical students' associations throughout the world. In 2007 IFMSA had 102 National Member Organizations from 100 countries on six continents and represented more than 1 million medical students worldwide.

The IFMSA was founded in May 1951 and is run for and by medical students on a non-profit basis. It is officially recognized as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) within the United Nations' and recognized by the World Health Organization as the International Forum for medical students. It exists to serve medical students all over the world. IFMSA was established in the Netherlands as a charity organization.

SCOPE or the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange is the first and largest Standing Committee in the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA). It is logically the largest project in IFMSA, offering international clerkships for medical students from around the globe, combining the curricular benefit to the cultural enrichment, making the exchanges offered quite a unique opportunity for every medical student. It is constantly enlarging, reaching more than 8000 exchanges per year, with 85 participating countries today.

SCORE or the Standing Committee on Research Exchange was founded in 1991, during the 40th Anniversary of IFMSA. The primary mission of SCORE is to provide intensive and focused research projects, which allow medical students to expand their knowledge of specific scientific areas of their choice, while encouraging the formation of professional and social networks abroad. In 2008, SCORE had over 60 active participating NMOs, offering over 1900 research projects, and has provided over 1700 students opportunities to participate in research exchange.
