Become immersed in Finnish language, culture and society
The International Summer School offers courses taught by local experts in the fields of culture and society. The courses draw together expertise in various academic fields offering a multi-dimensional representation of several issues facing Finnish society.
The courses of the International Summer School are aimed at university students and graduates as well as international scholars and experts of various backgrounds, whether they are planning a short study visit or intend to live in Finland. The language of instruction is English. The programme is designed to be flexible for students giving them the opportunity to choose among different courses including language study in Finnish.
Location: The city of Turku, on the south-west coast of Finland, offers a beautiful environment for the International Summer School. Turku is one of the leading cultural centres in Finland and the local traditions in education and research go back 700 years. The unique Turku Archipelago with over 20,000 islands lies just outside the city and is easily accessible for day trips and excursions.
Course Descriptions 2009
The International Summer School consists of four course modules (2-3 ECTS credits each) and the maximun amount of credit for the Summer School is 10 ECTS credits.
You have an excellent possibility to study Finnish language and courses related to Finnish culture and society. The minimum number of students per course is five persons! Otherwise it will be cancelled. All students who satisfactorily complete the programme will receive an Attendance Certificate and a Transcript of Records.
FNSC1051: Traditions, Religion, Culture and Finnish Everyday Life
FNSC9001: Aspects of Finnish Contemporary History
FNSC9002: Finnish Society: Structures and Cultures
FNSC9003: Beginners Course I in Finnish
Course Fees 2009
