The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE)

AIMS
To provide students in higher education with technical experience relevant to their studies
To offer employers well-qualified and motivated trainees
To be a source of cultural enrichment for trainees and their host communities

MISSION
To operate a high quality practical training exchange programme between members in order to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students, academic institutions, employers and the wider community

SERVICE
What does IAESTE offer to students?

* Provision of paid, technical work experience abroad for skill enhancement
* Safe experience through IAESTE support network
* Support with practical arrangements i.e. work permits / visa, accommodation and travel

EXCHANGE
WHO CAN APPLY

Participation in the IAESTE exchange is open to bona fide students attending courses at universities, institutes of technology and similar institutions of higher education in the study fields IAESTE is covering.

The IAESTE program is not open to those who are about to start their university or college studies, nor is it available to those who have left university. Exceptions can be made for fresh graduates doing their practical training immediately after final examinations. Post-doctorate trainees will normally not be accepted.

HOW TO APPLY
Students who are interested in an IAESTE placement abroad must apply through IAESTE in their home country.

As the IAESTE Association is a confederation of National Committees who have a bilateral exchange of offers it is only a National Commitee that can provide a job placement.

Therefore please do not send any requests to the international body of IAESTE!

CALENDAR
October-December
The exchange is employer driven. During the autumn each IAESTE member country contacts local employers interested in offering placements to foreign students. The employer is expected to remunerate the student in line with local student salaries.
January
All offers of placements are collated nationally, and exchanged in a series of bilateral meetings during the Annual Exchange conference. Employer requirements are carefully discussed and monitored.
February-March
Each IAESTE member country selects students to comply with work offers from employers abroad. The selection is very stringent, often involving interviews. Only one student is selected per work offer and the nomination forwarded to the receiving country and employer for approval.
April-June
Acceptance of nominated student by employers, arrangements for work permits, travel, and accommodation by the receiving IAESTE country.
June-October
Usual season for placements taking place and receiving country's reception and pastoral activities. The period of placements may vary according to country and length of placement agreed with employers.
