Often a biological system will span either multiple time or spatial scales. The spring school aims at giving an introduction into methods and research allowing a better understanding of such multiscale systems from the point of view of mathematics, physics, biology, and informatics.

Topics covered include:
Multiscale methods
* Methods for making the connection between continuum macroscale models and discrete molecular phenomena
* Parameter space reduction
* Multi-scale modeling systems using optimization
* Monte Carlo methods
* Multiscale statistics

Modelling
* Multiscale systems modelling for signaling and activation
* Models of cellular networks
* Protein-Protein, Protein-DNA interaction
* DNA and chromatin

The spring school will include tutorials, lectures and practicals.

Mini-Symposium May 22 and 23:
Part of the school will be a Mini-Symposium on Multiscale methods and Modelling in Biophysics and Systems Biology. Please contact the organizers if you wish to participate in the symposium. Talks as well as posters are welcome.

Registration:
The number of participants is limited to 60. Applicants are encouraged from the mathematical, physical and the life sciences. A small number of stipendships is available on a competitive basis.

Interested participants should fill out the online registration. Acceptance will be communicated to selected participants by the end of April. The Registration fee is 300 EUR / 2600 RMB (including inscription, full board and lodging from Monday 18th evening to Friday 29th afternoon and school dinner). For local participants the registration fee (including inscription, coffee breaks and lunch) is 150 EUR / 1300 RMB.

Students are invited to present posters describing their research work. If you want to present a poster, please indicate this in the registration form.
