WINTER SCHOOL ON FEDERALISM AND GOVERNANCE
The international Winter School on Federalism and Governance is a common project of the Institute for Studies on Federalism and Regionalism of the European Academy Bozen/Bolzano (EURAC), the Faculty of Law and the School of Political Science and Sociology of the University of Innsbruck.
It takes place under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The first edition of the international Winter School on Federalism and Governance from 1-12 February 2010 focuses on Local Government in Federal and Regional Systems.
DATES AND VENUES
1-5 February 2010 in Innsbruck (Tyrol, Austria) and
8-12 February 2010 in Bolzano/Bozen (South Tyrol, Italy).
WHAT IS THE WINTER SCHOOL ABOUT?
The Winter School analyzes the phenomena of federalism, regionalism and multi-level governance from a legal and a political science perspective.
Every edition pays special attention to a particular topic, which is approached in detail by legal scholars, political scientists and practitioners.
Successful participants of the 2-week-programme are awarded 10 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System).
The working language is English.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
The Winter School welcomes participants from all over the world.
• Young researchers or academics with focus on comparative
federalism
• Post-graduate or undergraduate students with basic knowledge of
federalism, multi-level governance and constitutional issues
• Civil servants from a local, regional or national government
• Employees of international organizations or NGOs dealing with
regional and local development
WHAT TO EXPECT IN INNSBRUCK AND BOLZANO/BOZEN?
Get directly involved with long-established Austrian federalism, unique South Tyrolean autonomy and the Italian "federation in the making". Benefit from an exciting academic programme on both sides of the Alps that includes
• lectures by distinguished academics from Europe and worldwide;
• discussions, roundtables and case studies with experts from
different administrations at local, regional, European and
international level;
• institutional study visits in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen;
• public lectures and debates with politicians and civil servants.
