International Summer School on Semantic Computing 2011
8 - 12 August 2011
Berkeley, California
Semantic Computing is a rapidly evolving research field that integrates representation, methods, and techniques from areas as diverse as multimedia, computational linguistics, semantic web, knowledge engineering, software engineering, with the goal of creating novel technologies and applications that connect intuitively formulated user intentions with the content and meaning of machine-represented data.
Already at its second edition, the International Summer School on Semantic Computing 2011 provides an introduction to this interdisciplinary field to senior undergraduate and graduate students. A mix of young and well-established researchers and educators will give tutorials on cutting-edge results in the aforementioned areas, complemented by keynote talks by renowned experts and hands-on exercises that showcase the application of the most important technologies in real-world situations.
Just as in 2010, the 5-day event will take place on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley in August 8 - 12, 2011.
Registration
Registration fee is 900 USD, it includes tuition, teaching materials, hands-on sessions, use of computers and classroom facilities, as well as social events. The fee does not include travel costs, room and board for the participants, which should be organized individually.
Important!
If you are not a US citizen, and you do not currently have any visa status in the US, please make sure to apply for a US visa immediately. The Summer School neither constitutes vocational or language training, nor do any of the classes count towards an earned degree. Therefore the Summer School cannot sponsor student visas (F1-VISAs). When attending the Summer School on Semantic Computing, the purpose for your travel is to attend a scientific/educational convention for the time period of six days. Therefore we recommend applying for a B1 visa (business visitor less than 90 days).
