London School of Journalism - Summer School
1 - 26 August 2011
Our Summer School is held every August, and is a four week intensive course in journalism and newswriting. Whether you are an overseas student or based in the UK, this course provides a unique opportunity for you to acquire the fundamental skills required and receive professional journalism training in small, friendly groups, while at the same time enjoying the sights and culture of London.
The topics covered include:
- News and newswriting
- Reports
- English law
- Professional ethics
- Broadcast journalism (TV and Radio)
- Sports
- Interviewing
- Gossip columns and reviews
- Magazines
- Going Freelance
- Feature articles
You will have the benefit of group discussions and lively question and answer sessions, seminars conducted by our professional team of writers and journalists and lectures from outside guest speakers.
As part of this course we will arrange for you to visit a newspaper production plant to see a national 'Daily' in operation or a visit to the BBC to see the News in action. You will also visit local magistrates courts, exhibitions, museums or art galleries - and report on what you see.
The Summer School for 2011 commences with registration on Monday, 1 August 2011 at 10am, and finishes (having had lunch and drinks in the Courtyard) on Friday, 26 August 2011.
Books: (costs included in course fees)
- Journalism and newswriting (LSJ 2010)
- Freelance and Feature Writing (LSJ 2010)
- McNae's Essential Law for Journalists
- Media Law (LSJ 2010)
- Subediting (LSJ 2010)
Course Date:
1 August 2011 until 26 August 2011
4 Weeks - daily 10.30 till 16.30
(except the first day, which starts at 10.00, and the last day, which ends at 15.00)
Course Fee: £ 1595.00 (inc vat)
We are unable to arrange accommodation for you direct, but will gladly provide information on local Youth Hostels or the International Students House. Alternatively, there are many local hotels within walking distance of the School in the Paddington/Bayswater area which offer accommodation at reasonable rates. On request we can supply details of some which our students have found both comfortable and clean in the past!
