Achill Archaeological Field School 2009
Archaeology Centre, Achill Island, County Mayo, Ireland

The Achill Archaeological Field School was founded in 1991 as a Training School for students of archaeology and anthropology. The Field School is involved in a study of the prehistoric and historic landscape at Slievemore, incorporating a research excavation at a number of sites within the village.

Academic Credit for overseas students is provided by the National University of Ireland at Galway with whom the school has formal linkage.

Achill offers several courses for 2009:

6 Week Residential Courses
-Module 1 - 18 May-26 June 2009 Cost €3850,
-Module 2 - 06 July-14 August 2009 Cost €3850

Course fees include accommodation, 18 ECTS / 9 Semester Academic Credits Awarded

Hands-on & General Interest Courses
-Introduction to Irish Archaeology - 1 Week
11th May - 15th May
29th June - 3rd July 2009
24th August - 28th August 2009
Duration: 5 days
Course Fees: €845

-Bares Bones - 2 Weeks
Dates:
20th April - 1st May 2009
Excavating an18th Century house at Keem Bay.

15th June - 26th June 2009
Excavation of trenches at the north and east of Roundhouse 2.

3rd August - 14th August 2009
Excavation of trenches at the south and west of Roundhouse 2.

Cost: €650
Cost includes self-catering accommodation, local transport and 1- day-tour of archaeological sites on the island.
