IHS Journalism Internship Program

The IHS Journalism Internship Program places talented writers and communicators—who support individual liberty, free markets, and peace—at media companies and non-profit investigative newsrooms. Past interns have worked at 20/20, the Orange County Register, Reason.TV, Fox News, and many other companies and organizations. Internship placements are offered year-round, during the spring, summer, and fall.

A Comprehensive Program
- Eight-week internship at a newspaper, radio station, new media company, or nonprofit newsroom
- $3,200 stipend and an allowance for travel to internship
- A six-day journalism workshop featuring working journalists
- Mentoring and job placement assistance from the program director, a former journalist

Once accepted into the program, the program director will match you with a host based on your goals and experience and a host’s needs.

You can also apply for funding for an internship you secure on your own, such as at a local paper or TV station.

The program offers the opportunity to learn core reporting skills under the guidance of experienced editors and producers: how to identify compelling stories, secure sources, research facts, and ask the right questions. Interns will expand their professional network and receive job search assistance from the program director. Plus all interns, from throughout the year, meet and network at the annual IHS Journalism Career Workshop.

Eligibility
Previous experience is a plus but not required. Skilled writers and communicators passionate about liberty are encouraged to apply. A journalism major is not required. Students from all disciplines, including political science and economics, are eligible. The program is open to undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates.

Almost all internships are in the United States, and American media outlets require candidates to speak and write English fluently. Candidates must also meet all visa requirements.

Application Deadlines
Fall, 2011: July 1, 2011
Spring, 2012: Nov 15, 2011
Summer, 2012: Jan 31, 2012
