DEADLINE 28 May - Summer Camp in China, July 3 - August 12 2011
SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR in CHINA Program
Want to spend a fun, exciting, and rewarding month this summer abroad? From July 3 - August 12, 2011, Cultural Embrace offers an exciting and affordable opportunity for native English speakers to live, work, and travel in this fascinating country. Teach and tutor English language skills to students in private language academies, and public schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hohhot (Inner Mongolia). You will teach English and lead camp activities for an average of 35-40 hours per week. Your leisure weekends will allow you to explore and soak up China's rich culture, history, and landscape.
Cultural Embrace's summer camp program includes a three-day orientation in Beijing, so you will be able to recover from jetlag, meet fellow counselors, get familiar with the Chinese culture and etiquettes, learn survival Chinese language skills, and travel and see famous landmarks, like the Great Wall and Forbidden Palace. Then, you will head off to your assigned school in various major cities. Your domestic transportation to your host city will be included, and you will be picked up from the airport, train or bus station by your local representative. Once you are at your 'home away from home' in China, you will have housing included and meals at school cafeterias during the hours you are teaching.
Each school will have their own orientation to train you about their curriculum, expectations, and staff schedule. Education and English training are helpful, but not required, however, you must be comfortable to lead English lessons and activities. Most of the students in China are already somewhat proficient with English reading and writing, but many remain shy and embarrassed about practicing their conversational skills. As a summer camp counselor, you will engage with and make your students feel more comfortable by interacting with them in your native tongue and leadership skills.
Counselors that submit three reflections of their time abroad in China (via blogs, videos, and photos), will receive an US$250 stipend upon completion of the program and an on-line evaluation. This stipend will be rewarded by a check in US dollars from our Austin office.
Program Requirements
- Native English Speakers; Chinese knowledge helpful, but NOT required
- At least 18 years of age, and enjoy leading groups and working children and/or adults.
- have 6 months previous experience working with children as a worker, tutor, coach, mentor, etc.
- Good lesson planning and organizational skills.
- Open to foreign cultures and living abroad
- High level of responsibility
- Dedication to the full term of commitment (July 3-August 12, 2011, varies depending on city of placement)

Program Fees
$500
