SUMMER COURSE ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

1. Introduction to Sustainable Development
2. Climate Change and its Policies and Mechanisms for Adaptation or Mitigation
3. The World Energy Resources and Consumption
4. The Energy Crops Within the Context of Fossil Fuel Scarcity
5. Non-bio Renewable Energy Sources
6. Strategic Management of Energy Resources
7. Sustainable Development Indicators within the Context of Climate Change and Energy
Crisis
Target Audience
This course is recommended for students and professionals in engineering, economics, administration and management, agronomy, communications, journalism, and environmental sciences, who are working in the energy, transport, oil & gas, industry, agriculture and forestry sectors.
Language taught: English
Duration: 60 hours
Learning Outcomes
The course intends to give an updated, integrated, and systemic view of the most relevant aspects of policies and mechanisms facing climate change and energy security.
It also provides good theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the various fields of sustainable energy use, including the use of geothermal energy, hydroelectric power, wind power, solar power, biofuels, energy efficiency, among others
Registration fee:
300 EUR (for earlier registration until 27th May 2011)
350 EUR (for late registration after 27th May 2011)
Reduced fees apply for students and academics of the University of Azores, University of Pardubice and University of Akureyri, and members of CRUSUS. Group discounts also applicable.
The registration fee includes:
- Welcome pack
- Free accommodation in the dorms of the university of Azores for first 20 participants registered in the course or orientation and support in the arrangement of accommodation in shared room in private flat, or discount in local hotels)
- Free daily meals at the university canteen
- Health insurance against accidents and medical assistance.
- Lessons, teaching materials, free use of the university library
- Coffee-breaks
- Technical visits to geothermal power plant and hydro power plant
- Excursion around island throughout some of the most beautiful locations
- Certificate and transcript issued by the University of Azores.
And more: possibility of getting discount on air tickets to Azores for participants.
