THEME: A NEW HORIZON IN LEADERSHIP CULTURE; FILLING THE GENERATIONAL GAP
Introduction
The International Young Leaders in Action (IYLA) is an assembly of young leaders from across the world that was founded in April 2010 with the common agenda of addressing global, regional and country specific concerns and issues and pooling their resources, experience, skills, know how, talents, capacity and desired attitudes to generate, exchange, package and disseminate a new thinking in the leadership culture for the betterment of the world.
IYLA is dedicated to expanding and developing international progressive political leadership, economic development, social and cultural values’ enhancement and above all, creating peaceful atmosphere for all humanity.
THE IYLA INAUGURAL CONFERENCE, (FEBRUARY 15-17TH 2012) MOMBASA, KENYA
The course of IYLA that has now culminated to the planned inaugural conference has been advanced through social media and other online tools most of which have been innovations of young people such as Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook Founder) in the world in their effort of easing communication in this era of globalization. IYLA as a beneficiary of this great innovation has brought together more than 150 leaders and future leaders from individual countries across the world namely; Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Ghana, South Africa, Haiti, German, USA, UK, Switzerland, Bermuda, Togo, Canada, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Guinea, Egypt, Argentina, Sweden, Finland, Antigua Republic, Sierra Leone and Liberia among others. These leaders have been sharing stories about their countries, commentaries on global geo-politics, papers on economic opportunities etc through emails, Facebook and Skype teleconferences. Such exchanges have given birth to the need of an international meeting.
IYLA Conference implies and symbolizes the much need generational and paradigm shifts in leadership, as well as the rejuvenation of new and dynamic International and National Agenda, Motivation and Inspiration, together with the re-ignition of the global spirit of doing things differently. The international conference shall be about a solemn commitment of taking charge of our situations and dealing with not only the difficult everyday challenges facing young leaders and humanity at large, but aims at finding practical and humble responsible approaches of solving the challenges through experiential learning and sharing. IYLA endears to influence international and national action about “bad leadership” and effective replacement with “good leadership” hence moving a way from the usual mindset of doubt and the fatigue of continued complain and suffering.
The conference shall bring on board and provide a platform for young leaders, men and women, who are doing uniquely marvelous in politics, businesses, social enterprises, academia and other professions to re-think, re-imagine, re-cast and re-define the basic dynamics of making the world a better place for all.
The strategic positioning of Kenya in African matters (political and economic) and going by the fact that many African countries including Kenya shall be participating in a general election, a decision has been taken that the conference should take place in Kenya to also serve as a platform for young aspiring leaders to be trained and learn from others how best to win the political offices created under the new constitution with the aim of breathing a new lease of life to the old leadership culture in Kenya and Africa.
IYLA CONFERENCE PROGRAM DETAILS
The conference program shall entail discussions on the following topical issues:
1. Young leadership development in political, economic and social spheres: lessons from other countries (to be listed) and the position of young leaders in the world political podium,
2. Good governance and accountability: Dealing with corrupt systems and individuals while in a leadership position;
3. Tackling global terrorism: Innovative approaches by young leaders in addressing terrorism;
4. Diplomacy and Group Approach to Social Action;
5. Social media as a tool of change; how young leaders can apply such system to their advantage;
6. Peace, Conflict and Non-violence Trainings;
7. Profiling and visibility creation of young leaders internationally and locally; Presidential, Governors, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators and United Nations aspirants.
Other fundamental activities will include;
1. Plenary sessions and discussion groups
2. Development of petitions to serve to the world governments
3. Visitations/tourism
4. Mechanisms to support young aspirants
5. Official launch of the IYLA website
6. Voting where (country) the 2013 conference shall be held
There shall be invited guest speakers-mentors and orators who are world renowned speakers on various fields: Politics, Law, Socio-Cultural, Human Rights, International Security and intelligence, etc.
