The Helsinki Summer School in Transportation has established itself as a premier institution offering innovative and practical approaches to understand and solve complex transport problems. The Summer School presents an intensive learning experience to mid-career professionals of transport engineering and planning, and graduate students. Following the very successful Summer Schools in past four years, the theme in 2011 will be Rethinking the Transportation Planning Process in the presence of uncertainty and the participatory decision-making environment.
The Summer School 2011 will take place in August 8-12, 2011 on the beautiful campus of Aalto University Otaniemi (formerly Helsinki University of Technology) in Espoo, Finland. The five day course will bring transport executives, managers and graduate students of varying backgrounds together to a common theme of the Transport Planning Process. A field visit is planned to the Finnish Transport Agency, a multimodal transport administration with a new multimodal approach to transport planning. The class includes a team exercise to apply the concept and approaches to the real world transport planning.
