Weimar - a place of utopian thinking
Weimar Summer Courses from 13 – 27 August 2011

Weimar is commonly associated with the classical period, Franz Liszt, the Bauhaus or Buchenwald, but only rarely with utopian concepts. Many philosophical and artistic ideas that were born in this region were, however, about just that: concepts for successful societies, for a fulfilled way of life or meaningful politics, ideas that questioned the status quo and proposed visions for a fulfilled future.

Referring to this tradition, the Weimar Summer Courses in 2011 will look at Weimar as a place of utopian thinking. Together with some 70 participants from all over the world, you will live and work for two weeks in the European cultural city of Weimar. You will work on texts, exchange ideas with other participants and experience the unique variety of archives, libraries, museums and monuments in the “twin cities” of Weimar and Jena.

Six parallel courses are offered – each with a specific thematic focus – for people interested in literature, philosophy and cultural history. The course is conducted in German and students will be expected to have a good command of the language.
