SACE Ancient Worlds Summer School
25 July - 5 August 2011
University of Liverpool, UK

The School of Archaeology, Classics & Egyptology at the University of Liverpool is pleased to announce the programme for the Ancient Worlds Summer School 2011.

This year we will be offering both language and non-language pathways through a two-week summer school covering many aspects of the ancient world;

General Information
The Summer School will take place in the University of Liverpool. Those enrolled on the Summer School will have full use of University of Liverpool facilities, including use of the library and access to computing resources for the duration of their attendance. Enrolments are welcomed for one or both weeks, or for the Hieroglyphs three-day short courses.

All teaching at the Summer School is given by staff from the University, and group numbers will be capped to ensure a high-quality learning experience.

Teaching will be given on alternate hours on Monday to Friday throughout both weeks, with non-contact time for private study and set work. Wednesday and Friday afternoons will be reserved for study sessions based around the collections held by the Garstang Museum of Archaeology and Liverpool World Museum.

The two weeks are structured as follows such that language or history pathways are possible:
Week 1
Greek/Latin
The Transition from Old to Middle Kingdom Egypt

Week 2
Hieroglyphs
Discovering the Ancient World

Accommodation
For those who are travelling from outside Liverpool, single ensuite accommodation is available in University Halls. The cost £27.87 per person per night, and this includes bed, breakfast and evening meal.

Social Programme
There will be evening lectures and other social events during both weeks of the Summer School, and on the Friday of each week a Summer School Dinner will be held at a local restaurant. This is expected to be in the region of £20-£25 per head for 3 courses plus ½ bottle of wine, and can be booked and paid for during the Summer School.

Fees
The tuition fee for all courses is:
- One week £150
- Two weeks £260
- Hieroglyph Short Courses £90
- A non-refundable deposit of £25 is required when booking to secure your place; we will contact you for the balance before the Summer School begins.
